The Brisbane Gender Clinic has been in operation since 1994 (most recently at Roma Street Brisbane) and is now located in the Queensland AIDS Council premises at Teneriffe.
The Clinic adheres to internationally formulated Standards of Care for the Health of Transsexual, Transgender, and Gender-Nonconforming People, Version 7.
Dr Gale Bearman M.B.,B.S. is the consulting physician, assisted by a volunteer receptionist.
The Wednesday clinic is a private practice clinic at which the doctor bulk-bills Medicare for consultations so there is no direct charge to clients who hold a Medicare Card.
About Dr Bearman
Gale Bearman, M.B., B.S., graduated from the University of Queensland in 1978, and worked initially in indigenous health. In 1991 she joined Gladstone Road Medical Centre, a general practice that welcomes minorities and people living with HIV/AIDS while maintaining a broad patient base. She has been the coordinator and principal practitioner at the Brisbane Gender Clinic since 1995. Dr Bearman was also a visiting medical officer at the Brisbane Sexual Health Clinic from 1996-2013 where she focused on gender work and women’s health. She still maintains her general practice at Gladstone Road Medical Centre and doing a little bit of everything.
